Working out at Thurgood Marshall Green

This watercolor painting was inspired by a visit to the newly-built Thurgood Marshall Green in Cleveland, Ohio. One Saturday, Chuck Delpapa went to the park hoping to find children playing, but instead encountered this group of young men working out on the bars. Their team, All Muscle Service: Cleveland Calisthenics, competes in “Bar Wars,” a style of competitive calisthenics performed on outdoor exercise bars. The athletes were happy to be models for the painting, which captures both the movement and community spirit of the scene alongside the atmosphere of a Cleveland neighborhood park.
