Ohio and Erie Canal – Cleveland Metro Parks

An original watercolor reflects the quiet rhythm of the Ohio and Erie Canal, where still water mirrors a line of slender trees and soft hills rise in the distance. The muted tones and gentle transitions capture a calm, grounded moment in the Cleveland Metroparks, where nature feels both open and intimate. One of my friends in my weekly painting group took this photo of the canal and thought it would make a nice painting, and I agreed. The scene holds that simple clarity of a shared perspective, shaped by observation and time spent outdoors, something that naturally settles into spaces drawn to Ohio landscapes, regional artwork, and the understated beauty of familiar places.
