A burst of red foliage draws the eye immediately, as a Japanese maple stands vivid and full against the softer greens of a quiet grove. Light moves gently through the trees, creating a sense of openness around a space that once felt crowded and hidden. This painting recalls the time we lived in the country, where a dense grove of locust trees grew on our property. When we thinned the grove, we discovered a stunted Japanese maple tucked among them, and once freed from the competition, it flourished into a striking presence in the landscape. The scene holds that quiet transformation, shaped by patience, discovery, and the natural resilience of the land.
